radio whine
radio whine I could use some help here if you guys could. I have a pretty good whine coming from my radio. I have a Sony in my 1998 Camaro Z28. If I turn the key to the run position without starting the car I get this high pitched whine. I put the key in acc. mode there is no whine and the sound is perfect. I do have the same whine when the car is running also.

Try temporarily disconnecting the alternator - don't start the vehicle. See if the whine goes away. If yes, replace the alternator because I think there is something wonky with the voltage regulator and/or rectifier.
An auto parts store alternator test might indicate some voltage ripple (leaking alternating current) out of it.

I tried grounding the radio chassis to a good temp. ground but it made no difference. However while I was in there I jiggled the wiring harness (not on purpose) and the whine went away. This tells me that I have loose connection in that harness somewhere. I will find it and fix it. Thanx guys.
