Issues with an aftermaket radio
First pardon my english, i'm a french guy
.My dad just bought a 2002 camaro, and i instaled a 2din autoradio (Atoto F7) in it.
I had two weird thing. The first is not really serious, but curious.
When i'm on igniton, the radio start normaly, okay when we driving too. But when we stop the car and leave the key, the radio keep running ! It only shutdown when we open one door. Never seen that before. Is it normal ?
The second thing is more important. We have an issue with power antena. The first time we pluged the radio the antena strating to shake realy quicky, up and down. My last attempt was, the antena going up normaly when then radio start, but when the radio shutdown, the antena starting to shake an doesn't retract. So i decided to disconnect the antena in the trunk.
I have a doubt with my wirings. The radio got a blue wire (designed for amp) and a blue and white for the powered antena. I put this wire with the wire deticated to the powered antena of the vehicule.
I see some people using the wire designed for the amp, instead of the antena wire. I also see some people put the antena wire to the red (igniton)
Can you help me ? Did you have some advices ?
Thanks
2) Sounds like you chose the correct wire (the one marked antenna). However, the 2002 Camaro didn't come with power antenna. Someone may have added that. Either way, you should test to make sure the antenna is working properly. First use a multi-meter to check the voltage on that antenna wire from the radio. It should show 12V. If that is good then test the car's antenna by giving the pink wire that goes to the antenna 12V (unless this aftermarket setup used a different color wire - pink is the stock wire color in the Firebird). If it works fine, then double-check the connections or maybe there is a problem with the antenna up signal from the radio. If antenna doesn't work with the test, then there is something wrong with the wiring going to it or the antenna itself. If the car's antenna works fine, try the amp turn-on wire from the radio instead. However, that would mean the antenna would always be up even if you use CD or Satellite Radio. The antenna up wire probably only sends signal/voltage when listening to AM/FM radio (you can test that setting too).
