Default Reverse lock out wiring

Once my T56 is bolted in to the car, ( T56 swap ) can I attach the ground wire for the reverse lockout solenoid to the trans it self?? Doesn’t work with the trans out of the car when I tried that. Will it work once the trans is all bolted in? If it will work, will make the wiring nice and neat. Thanx.

Electrical current needs a complete loop from the positive side of the battery through powered devices (in this case your solenoid) and back to the negative side of the battery. I suspect you supplied power from a battery when the transmission was out of the car but didn't provide a ground path from the case back to the battery negative terminal. So when you attached your ground wire to the transmission, it didn't have a complete path back to the battery ground. But when it's in the car, it is bolted to (electrically connected to) the engine which has multiple ground straps providing continuity back to the battery. It's not an ideal ground setup but it should work fine as long as you connect your ground wire to a good clean bare metal contact point.

A better option would be to run a paired wire (2 conductors with shared insulation) and then provide both power and ground from the same area under the dash. It will be just as tidy since there's still only "one" wire/cable going to the solenoid, but you don't risk a bad ground ruining your day in the future - they are notoriously hard to track down.

12V supply goes into terminal pin B of connector.

Pin A is wired to engine ECM. The ECM itself will switch to ground to operate the solenoid when vehicle is under 5 mph.

I don't remember which terminal pin of the ECM it goes to, you'll need to look that up in a schematic.
