Default Speakers for Silverback...

So I got me a new truck. Its a 87 R20 454ci 3/4 ton Chevy truck. When i purchased the truck it already had a Retrosound headunit whivh looks factory but its actually a bluetooth and tunable setup. However, the truck still has the weak and awful sounding 4x10 speakers in the corner cab. I will be ditching them here really soon for some high quality 6×9 speakers.

Let me mention that i am mot audio inclined at all but i want the truck to sound great. I have been asking around and guys always recommend Pioneer or Kicker 6×9 speakers. They seem to be brand loyal people. I want something different. I am going to run a good brand amp as well... any help there will be appreciated as well. Anybody in here have any recommendations?
Anybody in here ever tried Cerwin Vega, focal, or Digital Design speakers ?

Here is Silverback and a picture of the speaker...

Two questions... why 6x9 if you can install round speakers using the pictured mounts? Round speakers will ALWAYS sound better than equivalent oval speakers. Assuming (since you plan using 6x9s) that the opening is at least 6" or 6.5", you can get your pick of good round speakers that will fit... perhaps the convertible CDT speakers that have become so popular for Camaros.

And why the urge to do something different? People recommend and are loyal to Pioneer and Kicker because they have had experience with them and know they sound good. There's nothing wrong with going with a different brand if you have a reason to do so, but just to be different isn't much of a reason. The bragging rights of "oh, I have XYZ brand speakers" is worthless if they don't sound as good as a more common brand. For example, Kenwood makes very good head units which are always worth considering, but they also make speakers which are merely okay and certainly not great. Infinity makes speakers which some people love while others find them too shrill, so hearing them for yourself is always a good idea. Most audio shops, and even Best Buy, will usually have a wall with pairs of speakers for you to listen to and determine which you like best. But if you don't have that option then the recommendations of a multitude of people is probably better than a one-off opinion you might get of a less common brand.
