Default Component speakers - 2 Ohms or 4 Ohm?

The amp that I am getting for my component speakers puts out the same power 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm, and the component speakers can be wires in 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm. So, is there a sound quality difference between the two, or are these 2/4 Ohm devices just for wider range is uses?

I have read some stuff saying that 2 Ohm is louder but 4 Ohm is cleaner. Is that true?

Yes,it is true that higher impedance is better for eliminating electrical noise in the wiring, which is why home systems tend to use 8-ohm setups, but in an already noisy environment like a car, you would be hard pressed to notice any difference. However, if you have no other reason to chose one over the other, a 4-ohm setup will usually run an amp a little cooler and will help eliminate any electrical interference even if it is essentially inaudible.

The amp is a Rockford Fosgate T400X4AD. Fan cooled, 100w RMS both 2 Ohm and 4 Ohm. Speakers are CDT 6.75 components that can be wired 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm.

Would you go 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm?

If you want the best sound quality despite being in a noisy environment then 4-ohms is the way to go. It is very unusual to have an amp which producers the same RMS output into two different impedances - usually output into the lower impedance will produce more power.

The Alpine KTP-445Us in my TA are the same. 45x4 regardless of 2Ohm or 4Ohm.
