Default Killswitch with fog lamps switch. Help.

I am trying to add a killswitch and want to keep it nonchalant. I found a great spot that I would like to be using the stock fog light switch. But I have a couple questions. Is it even possible to use the DRL switch to power the starter relay without causing problems? I originally wanted to turn on the fog light switch and the daytime running lights to give power to starter then crank it like normal. One way that I have thought of is to splice the starter 15A fuse and run that through a relay and the foglight switch can be the power for the 86 in a relay. To me That's probably the way that I would do it or at least the way that makes most sense. New ideas or corrections is greatly appreciated.

A couple of things... First, since there is no DRL switch, no you can't use it to power the starter relay. Second, are you planning to give up fog lights? If not, you'll have to come up with a different method of controlling them because you can't use the fog light switch for both a kill switch and a fog light switch.

Now, if you don't have or don't care about fog lights, the easiest (and safest) way to use the fog light switch as a kill switch is to cut the yellow/black wire either near the starter relay or near the BCM under the dash. That's the wire that VATS uses to control ground to the starter relay coil side so you don't have to worry about power problems. Run a wire from each of the cut ends of the yellow/black wire to your fog light switch. Cut (or remove from the connector) the brown and yellow wires at the switch. Be sure to insulate the end of the brown wire since it carries power when the lights are on. Connect one of your new wires to the A terminal of the switch (formerly yellow wire) and the other to the D terminal of the switch (formerly brown wire) - it doesn't matter which goes where.

Now your starter relay will have no ground on the coil side unless the fog light switch is in the ON position, so turning off the fog light switch acts as a kill switch. It doesn't matter whether you still have a working VATS or have it bypassed as this still completes the circuit like normal when the fog light switch is on.

If you like the fog lights enough that you leave the switch in the on position all the time then you can simply connect the ends of the brown and yellow wires together to retain the fog lights while still using the switch for your kill switch. You won't be able to turn the fog lights off separately but they will still go on and off with the headlight switch.

Once upon a time, I turned the cigar lighter into an incognito switch. I ripped out the coiled heating element inside and then soldered a bare copper wire across the center and outer contacts.

The heat from the original heating element causes the lighter to pop out. Without the heating element, the the device works like a manual switch. Just do this mod, cut the ground wire of the harness and then route it to the power side of your circuit.
