Default 99 Firebird, headlight motor wiring

My passenger headlight had a bad plastic gear, so I rebuilt it with a brass gear kit. No electrical issues at the time. After reinstalling the motor and connecting it to the harness (light switch off), I noticed smoke coming from the motor and it was extremely hot. Now the motor doesn’t work.

When I check the harness pins, the light blue wire is hot and the dark blue is not (lights off). I pulled the drivers side harness to check that and both are hot, with the lights off.

What’s the correct setup here, before I kill another motor?
