Hopefully this is posted in the correct section. Is there any hope of repairing damaged electrical traces in a passenger seat airbag sensor pad? This is a 2011 LS.
Guessing nobody has tried this. I have nothing to lose at this point so I gave it a go. Tried a heat gun first in a attempt to separate the plastic film, but that was unsuccessful. I then used a pencil soldering iron to melt the plastic film over the trace and was able to pull the copper ribbon free. I will fold the ends back down and use some copper tape to bridge the two ends together. A little silicone caulk and I will try it for effect. Probably use some duct tape to hold it in position in lieu of those plastic pins.
IF it's available even it will either be a separate part or only available as part of the lower cushion. GM has discontinued so many parts even on new new cars it's unreal.
I had to change the seat cushion as part of an airbag rebuild job on a 15 SS and the lower cushion was 1,850 but you gotta have it if you want the bags to function so whaddaya do. Bend over and take mary barra like the man she is we gotta support their EV program through parts.
My attempt to repair was unsuccessful. Ended up purchasing another sensor pad off ebay ($135) and it took care of the problem. In the image you can see where GM had the vendor change the routing of the traces so that the retaining pins no longer rip them into.
