Bose in Camaro
My son just got a 97 Camaro and the head unit seems defective....I have a HU from my 2000 Bird...will it work ?....or does the Bose feature incorporate into the HU ?
However, are you sure it's a Bose system? My records show that the Camaro had the Bose system from '93 through '96 and switched to the Monsoon for '97 through '02.
I have several copies of 1997 Z28 and SS window stickers showing the upgrade audio system (both Cassette and CD + CD changer options); it doesn't say Bose but it also doesn't say Monsoon. The earlier ones (1996 and prior) used to say Delco-Bose on the window sticker (I also have copies of those). Starting in 1998 it was specified as "Monsoon Premium Audio System", and it was the same $450 cost as the non-branded CD upgrade system on a 1997 model.
I will take pics when he comes back over
other question.....what yr did GM offer CDs in F bods ?

CD players have been optional in F-body since the 3rd gen years, I believe 1987 was the first year this was offered (it was in Trans Am before Camaro, if I remember correctly). In terms of 4th gens, CD players were optional for every year of 4th gen F-body.
CD changer was available by 1997 for sure, but I don't know what year it was first introduced.

personally swap it all for a 4 channel and modern headunit and you'll be money time way better sound quality and frustration ahead.
I will say though me personally I'm a scrap it all guy BUT man for a stock system the 93-96 sounded awesome for stock and was the best sounding 3 years of stock systems in all the f bodies. Monsoon didn't hold a candle to the 93-96 BOSE stock for stock.

If they really wanted to confirm, the Monsoon had its amp in the right hatch area in front of the spare tire whereas the earlier 10-speaker system had a smaller amp mounted in the right sail panel below the right sub, next to the rear seat cushion.
