Upgrading head unit help please.

Looking to upgrade the head unit in my 1999 Trans Am convertible. I have a pioneer AVH 3800 BHS with good kicker speakers and a Timpano thousand watt digital amp. Sounds fine but I have a hard time seeing the screen with the top down and I want Android auto. I'm looking at a Kenwood excelon DMX958 XR. It has 5 volt pre outs and upgraded screen. It does everything I want but it's a thousand dollars. Is it three times better then a Windows based joying or a Toto head unit? Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't know about that model of Kenwood but the one I bought last year is a piece of junk, Kenwood DDX5707S. I am not going to reiterate the whole story but there is a thread on it here. First chance I get I am pulling it and replacing. Good luck with your endeavor. Sorry I can't help but just my $0.02 on anything Kenwood.

I'm surprised because Kenwood is known to be a good brand but it's still electronics. Thanks for reaching out.

I like my Kenwood 5707 with the exception of the having to turn the RDS time off every time I disconnect the battery.

I'm no expert but that's probably a connection of some sort.

No that's the clock setting that sets the time automatically from local radio stations but none of the stations in my area must use it. So I turn it off and set the time manually.
