These Pontiac power & volume ***** are such junk! I took a close look at one today, the grey exterior is bonded to the interior part.
The interior part that pushes on to the metal volume shaft is that brittle clear plastic GM loves to use on things.
And, the **** is of course long since discontinued!
I might try filling the hollow parts of the **** with epoxy to reinforce the **** better.
