Angry "No start" problem, maybe VATS related

My car has been having what I thought was VATS related "no start" problems. I have had the "no start" situation before but if I jiggled the key just right,,,, it would start after a few tries. This time it has gone on the fritze for good.

The reason I figured it was VATS was because my Security light came on right when it happened. I would reset the light and the next time it would happen, the light would come back on. This has happened about 15-20 times in the past couple of years.

Well, last Saturday I had my car tuned and asked the tuner to "delete" VATS. I think he forgot as my Security light was still on,,, he deleted the normal stuff and my SES light when off. I assume that if the SES light went off when he deleted the various cam and header related codes,,, then the Security light would have been off if he had deleted the VATS.

The very next day {last Sunday}, the car developed the "No start" crap again. This time, it would start at all,,, no amount of jiggling helped. I searched around and found the "VATS bypass" mod {measure the impedence of the chip in your key, duplicate it and wire it in, thereby by-passing your key switch}. Great!!! So I thought...

I tried it to no avail and ended up calling the dealership. Had it towed up there and they stated that to "Un-Install" the security system {as they called it} cost something like 380$. Thats just too damn much I think!!

Is there anyone that works for GM that knows anything about this bullcrap Un-Install stuff???? For 380 bucks they had damn sure better be under my hood, under the dash or otherwise working on my car for at least 3-4 dern hours,,, surely this ain't gonna take this long?????

I would think that at the worst, they could reset the code and do the resister mod,,,, that would take like one hour at the most??? Am I off-base here??? Man I hardly drive the car {40K miles and it's a 2000 model} but I had signed up for a Novice school at the local AutoX for this Saturday and smack!!!!! Murphy knocked the crap outa me!! Especially irritateing since the VATS was supposed to be removed the previous day.

Dunno,,,, maybe it ain't VATS at at all,,, maybe something else. I just assumed that since the security light is on,,,, that it would be VATS. Anyone have any opinions on what this might be??? This suxs GM.

It could be VATS.... and very likely the guy didnt program it out of your car. GM is full of crap with that "Un Install", I wouldnt giv them 1 cent. And they would never resistor mod your car either, they would repair the VATS to the point it worked. They just plain arent allowed to. That will cost you a lot more probably.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm?

What kind of by-pass are they gonna do, it is up to the individual as to how he goes about it.
Did they say something about a VATS delete box?

$380.00! I had my ignition cylinder replaced for $225.00..parts and labor with a 2yr warranty! The two wires were broken on the ignition cylinder for the VATS and my SS wouldn't start.
