Default problems with amp

when i turn my volume up loud, my amp and subs shut off until i turn it back down. why is this? is it because the amp is overheating? or do i have the wiring wrong? it bothers me, especially when a good song is on or im trying to get the attention of some girls in the car next to me.

Your ground wire may be the culprit. Try using another ground point or larger wire. Also check the amp and see how hot it feels.

I had 2 amps burn up on me doing the same thing before I found out I had a sub with a shorted voice coil. Good luck!

What amp are you running? What subs are you running? What ohm load do you have the subs wired to? What gauge wire do you have the amp hooked up with? When it shuts off go back and see if the amp is very hot to the touch.

You may be right about the ground wire. ill have to look at it tommorrow. I have a kenwood 600 watt amp(KAC-729S), 2 MTX thunder 8000 10" dual voice coil subs running a 2 ohm load(i think). both are bridged into the amp, its 4 gauge wire and yes it only takes a few min for the amp to get really hot.
What should i do about the heat? get a fan?

Look at this:http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html#1svc

Make sure that your amp is wired to the correct load.. If this is your amp...
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/discave/kac728s.html
And these are your woofers:
http://www.cardomain.com/item/MTXT8104A?ref=deal
wired in paralell to the amp while its in bridged mode... Right?

Although your amp is 2 Ohm stable in stereo mode, it is not stable to a 2 Ohm load while bridged. That puts the same stress on the amp as a 1 ohm load in stereo. The amp is seeing the low load and going into protection mode so it doesn't get damaged. The solution is to wire each of the woofers in stereo, or replace the woofers you have now with 8 Ohm models, so the amp sees a 4 Ohm load while bridged.. (It can do that with no problems) Good luck!

Not true if they have proper ventilation fans are not required.

Also, amps need to have unrestricted airflow across them (not mounted behind carpet), and should not be mounted upside down, as heat rises, and can cause the heatsink trap heat. Fans are only required if you have to mount the amp in spots like that.

I did what you said and wired the subs into a 4 ohm load and then bridged them to cause a 2 ohm load on the amp, and it worked! thanks for the help
