go to best buy or circuit city and get a step down converter or line converter .they will know what you mean when you tell them what its for.basicly you find your already exsisting speaker wires and connect them to the wires from the converter folloeing instuctions of course.then you plug your rca cables for your amp into ht erca outputs of the converter.it will probally have a gain type control on it you will need to adjust alittle but its not to hard.

you really dont even need to get a line converter. all you have to do is take your rca's and tap into the rear speaker/woofer wire from your radio. since the rears already have a low pass filter on them they are perfect for tapping into. thats really all rca's are, theyre just speaker wire with special connecters on them. post if you have anymore questions about that. true, getting the converter is a cleaner way but if you want to save about 30 bucks then my way will work just fine also.

Be careful with connecting rcas directly to speaker wires. Most amps have upper voltage limits of 2 volts. The speaker wires from the stock deck / monsoon amp are 12 volts, they sit at 6 volts when the radio is on and go as high as 12 and low as 0 when the music is playing. That could easily blow the amp input circuits. Also beware of some quick resistor circuits to make a line to rca convertor. I have seen many of these quick schematics on the web and they basically show a voltage dividor with two resistors. Again depending on the amp, if the RCA shield is connected to ground you would have grounded one speaker lead, thus shorting the 6 volts to ground. This would probably blow the deck or monsoon amp. Lastly, if you actually did make one of these resistor dividor circuits and made it balanced you would still get all kinds of noice from a ground loop in your input signal.

Best bet is to pay the $30 and get a line level to RCA convertor.

Also, if its the monsoon system, the rear hatch speakers are high passed so you dont want to tap into those for a sub. I confirmed this on my 2000 camaro by comparing the rear channel amp input to the hatch speaker output.

That's not true. These are crossed at the speakers not before them.

In my Z, I ran a converter off of these for my sub and I get full range from them.

The easiest and new way of hooking up an amp to your factory or any factory head unit is to get an amp with line level inputs. They allow you to tap into the factory speaker wiring and runs directly to the amp without using RCA's whatsoever, and the bonus of using an amp with line level inputs is that there in no need for a remote wire. The amp senses a signal at the line level inputs and turns on without using a remote wire. So you can keep the factory head unit and dont have to buy an "old fashion" line converter, and it wont look stupid by taping RCA's into your speaker wiring.
