Default Mounting a Tach

Hi Folks
I purchased an Autometer tach 7299 (5") with shift light. The mother is big and when I started to look for a good location to mount the unit, it became obvious to me there is not good location without blocking some view.
Has anybody with a Camaro mounted a similar unit and where did you mount it?

Thanks
Bill

There are generally only 2 locations people mount them in an F-body. 1 is left of the steering wheel right up against the A-pillar. If you mount it right, it will probably be a lot more stable there seeing it will rest up against the pillar and not move around. I put it on the center of the dash above the radio kind of angled towards me. It does block the view a bit, but not to bother me. The only draw back is it does rock a little bit because it's kind of hard to firmly mount it seeing the dash kind of gives a bit. I will snap some pics and post them up. I just swapped from a Pro-comp tach to a Cobalt one. I friggen love the Cobalt, that thing rocks at night. The Pro-comp use to light up the entire interior at night. Was going to wire in a kill switch for the lighting to it, before I decided to just get a new tach all together.

Hi Gregg
Thanks I like to see some pictures - I actually put the tach in the two locations you mentioned but they take up a lot room. I also looked at the Steering column but that blocks most of the gauges.

I have seen them in both spots! And the best way to go is the a-piller with the guage just resting on the dash! Doen't block the view very bad, doesn't shake, and you don't screw up your dash!

I would use pop rivets(sp) with small washers! Makes it like a rock I couldn't even rip it off if I wanted to! Dimmer wire is in the dimmer switch (green) and power is in the biggest harness left side unger dash (red). Tach is every where but easyest is pcm!

I rewired the whole pcm and car so finding wires was easy with dash off!

Here are a few pics. Sorry for the mess, re-doing a lot of stuff, also just upgraded to the cobalt from a pro-comp tach.

Hi Gregg
The Cobalt is cool - I wish I would have gotten that unit - My is the 7299 with blue shift light. I mounted the tach on the a-pillar and re-located the shift light to right and on the dash. It is the best location for me and interferes a little but is OK. thanks for help
