clipping
clipping if i have a 2 channel amp bridged, rated at 300w rms powering a 400w rms maximum 800w sub, would it cause the amp to clip because it is producing less power than the sub continously takes?
clipping has nothing to do with the type of speaker you use. clipping is when you set the input voltage higher than what the amp uses, which is why it's not recommended to use your "gain" **** on the amp as a volume control.
you will not hurt anything by using an amp that pushes less power than what the speaker can handle, as long as you have the gain set correctly.

Where would one go about getting one of these test tone CD's??
Also, if we're not fortunate enough to own a JL amp, how do we know where we want the voltage set to? For example, the manual for my Kicker ZX460 says the following:
Max distortion at rated power, 4 ohm 12.5 - 16 VDC:0.02%

i haven't used that personally, just found it with a quick google search for "test tone cd"
as far as what voltage your amp needs to be set at, you'd have to contact your amp's manufacturer, or maybe a local stereo shop has the specs
