Default Stereo set-up Q's...

Hey everyone... As of now I'm only running a set of Kicker Y2K components up front being pushed by a Clarion deck... I'm planning on adding a set of Kicker 2-way 6 1/2's in the rear seat pillars soon & a 12" Polk Momo in the hatch.... My question is, do you think I will need a seperate amp to push just the front & rear mids or would a better head unit be sufficient??? I really don't want to have two amps cluttering up the car... Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Mike.

Have you ever considered a 4 channel amp.

Never really crossed my mind... So since I would be running a total of 5 speakers, do you think it would be best to run the components & sub to a 4 channel amp & run the rear 2-ways off the head unit??? Sorry, I'm not real hip to car audio...

Thanks for your help,

Mike.

Well think of it this way. I dont know how many watts the factory head unit puts out but lets just say its 50x4. Now ask yourself this question. How big it the circuit board (how much does it take) to make a real 200 watts? The reality of the matter is that the factory head unit is actually one chip (or transistor with a filter) that is doing the amplifying. They can get away with rating their head units like that because it will do that much at a resonant frequency (1k HZ is popular) at 1% total harmonic distortion with 16 volt supplied. Not a realistic rating in the world of music. For those speakers to come alive you will need a good class A class A/B amplifier. Just make sure you filter out the low frequencies.

why not just get a 5 or 6 channel amp? Here's one that would probably work really good for you, the VGA800.5 at the bottom-right

and there are others that would work good as well:

Infinity Reference 5760a
Alpine MRV-F450
Audiobahn A6601T
JBL GTO755.6
JL Audio 500/5
JL Audio e6450
MTX Thunder895
Kenwood KAC-X650D
Lanzar VIBE531
Precision Power PCX-5800
HiFonics ZX8000
Kicker 04KX700.5

i'm sure there's plenty more, but that should give you a good starting point. also note that i am not saying whether or not you should or should not shop at some of the sites posted, the links are just for information about the product....
