(Editor’s note: This review is from our archive. The manufacturer has informed us that this model has been discontinued. However, it might still be available for sale. The MSRP and warranty were valid at the time the model was discontinued.)
This 12-band digital parametric signal processor features 2, 3 or 4-way frequency division and Sony's Phase Alignment--typically found only in crossovers. Phase Alignment changes polarity of audio signals, shifting them 180 degrees in order to compensate for the less-than-optimum speaker placement found in virtually every vehicle. Although almost any audio system on the road would substantially benefit from addition of the XDP-4000X into their system, it is expensive and should only be a consideration for audiophiles and others who seek optimum audio perfection. Features include Parametric EQ with adjustable frequency, level, and "Q" and the Finite Impulse Response Filter to digitally separate stages of computation to eliminate phase shifting and provide superior sound accuracy.
