Default problem with amp?

i have a kenwood 600x2 amp that once hooked up as soon as i turn the key forward it explodes a 65 amp glass fuse.

any ideas what could cause such a problem. i have an identical amp that when i switch out powers up fine with no issues?

It sounds like you might have a internal problem on the amp.
I was thinking maybe you had a wire grounding out or something, but since you replaced it with another and it worked fine, that rulez that out.

Ya it's the amp. Something is shorted inside.

Shake it and see what you hear. Is it under warranty? Take it in. If not open the bottom an look inside. Something like that should be obvious.

there is a possibilty that your power wire is grounding out somewhere through out the car too, check the entire power wire from the battery to that amp and see if it is bare anywhere or touching any metal.

Doubt that. He said he already swapped out the amp for the same type in the same place and it worked. So he's eliminated it down to the amp in question.

That's alright. We ALL make mistake. I've made my share just recently. That header install made me smack myself for how simple the fix was.

i think it's the power supply. it's almost 4 years old so it isn't under warranty. thanks for the suggestions though.

Usually caused by a blown transistor or one that is fixing to blow. What ohm do you have that amp running at?

Must have just been on deaths door way for a while. Did you open it up? Might be a simple fix or just dead.
