Speakers in a convertible?
All the speakers are coaxial speakers but there are 4 wires to every speaker.
1.) In the factory setup - did/do you have true bass from the back speakers?
2.) Have you taken them out? And when you did was there any sort of baffle or enclosure there to speak of?
I'm wondering if there may have been some updates to the sail panels / rear speaker arrangement / baffling in 2001. If so it might be worthwhile for us "no bass rears" guys to look into.
I "think" all the monsoon amps are common, it's just some channels are not used in certain applications. However I'm sure there was probably an update at one point or another.
Personally I am just trying to squeeze what I can out of the factory arrangement, for the least money, and keeping a stock appearance.
tks
1999 - showed only one convertible system. ULO, UM6, UNO, U62, W52, W53. These appear to be a standard arrangement of 4 ohm fronts and 10 ohm rears. This may explain why some people have bass from the rears, but doesn't explain how why they would be bi-wired. It's not shown that way. This is the ONLY wiring diagram for 1999 convertibles.
2000 & 2001
U62 - same arrangement as 1999 with 4 ohm fronts and 10 ohm rears.
U59 - what I believe to be the most common arrangement with all 8 channels amp driven, bi-amped at all locations, no bass to rears.
I've also corrected my first long post because I thought the front tweeters were off the h/u. I do know that the bi-wiring of aftermarket coaxials works, though. Just don't mix up the wires and send your factory woofer signal to your tweeter.
I think what we have here, is some people with the NON U59 systems have a standard arrangement of full-range (w/bass) back speakers. It seems it is also possible that U59 systems were build in 1999 cars early.
What I find REALLY intriguing, is that if all the Monsoon Amps are identical, then in theory there are four subwoofer channels being un-used in convertible cars. The coupes have subs that are dual voice coil 4+2 ohm drivers (goofy) that us vert guys don't.
Can someone cross reference the amplifier part numbers for 2000 model year U59 RPO amplifiers, and W54/W55 amplifiers? If they are the same... then those amp channels are unused. I'd be really happy to be able to wire subs right up without adding ****. I know the power would be bad but we're talking 6-8" subs here.

Hate to disagree with you but I have a '99 convert. with the U59 option (Monsoon). I have taken all the stock speakers out. The front doors where 2 ohm midrange and 4 ohm tweeter running off the Monsoon Amp. The rear sail panels where 4 ohm sub and 4 ohm tweeter running off the Monsoon Amp (see my previous post in the thread with wiring layouts). Yes I said sub, as when I put Infinity 6002i back there (like I put in the door locations) all I got was tweeter and very little from the midrange part of the speaker. When I hooked up some cheap 6.5 subs I then got more sound.
Do not know if this helps but this is what I found when working with the Monsoon Amp and speakers. I have since ditched the Monsoon amp, put Infinity 6002i in the door and sail panels and made a custom sub enclosure for 2 Rockford Fosgate RFP4406 6.5 subs where the old plastic divider was. Even with the top down I still get bass.
