Best speakers for 98 ss?
Best speakers for 98 ss? My 98 ss speakers sound pretty shitty so I wanna upgrade. I already have a clarion headunit that I might keep or not. Now, the question is, I dont really wanna put a sub in it for bass so are they any speakers that will give bass and good highs. I work at best buy so I will get a good discount so money is no problem. I will put a 10 inch sub in it if I have to but let me know in yalls experiance what to do. I think it only has 4 speakers
Kicker SSMB6's work well in the rear panels, but they are 4ohm so you'd probably wanna put an amp to em. For the front I'd go with JL Audio XR650-CXi's, or since you work at Best Buy and can get a discount Rockford Fosgate P162s components

Alpine type R 6.5" coaxails sound real good, with good bass response (for a coaxail replacement).. Of course, they are running through an amp. I doubt they'll sound as good with just HU power.

mb quarts all around. More expensive, require an amp, but you'll eventually blow whatever speakers you buy anyway (yes, underpowering speakers will eventually distory and blow the speakers.) I have mb quarts 6 1/2 in the front and 6x9s in the rear in my honda powered by an alpine 75x4 amp, and i can turn it all the way up and still have crystal clear clarity.
I tried to do the same thing as you, I didn't want a sub, just decent bass from my speakers. Boston acoustics run a couple of hundred per set and you get decent bass from that. You'll never get decent bass from normal speakers unless they are super high quality (and super expensive) and typically components. It's pretty much impossible to get any kind of bass from coaxials.
I bought a 12" alpine sub powered by an alpine amp, both modest not the crazy stuff, and i get decent bass. Only reason I went with a 12 was because I already had a custom fiberglassed enclosure for a diamond audio 12" sub which he put a drill through while drilling it in (by the way, use a screwdrivers when you install it)
Keep in mind that bass is largely a matter of surface area, hence why tweeters are so small. If you really want bass, buy a decent 10" sub and if you want you can email me and i'll tell you how to custom fiberglass it into your trunk to make it look flush. Here's how mine came out on my honda:

The amp rack holds the two amps as seen in that picture. Total cost of custom project? $100 maybe.
