is my amp toast?
is my amp toast? i noticed the other day that one side of my components wasn't playing. i put a test light to the amp and no current comes out one side, does this mean the amp is bad? it's just an old optimus so i'm not too upset.
well heres what you can do , try bridging one speaker to both channels and if it sounds really funny then you have a blown channel. This happened to my brand new rockford fosgate amp but I just took it back to best buy...

Could be alot of things besides a capacitor. Its usually a transistor or several that go bad.
To test...try switching the left and right channels on both the preamp side and the speaker out side. Switching the preamp side will show you if you have music in all channels (left/right) comming to the amp. Swithing the speaker out (after you have made sure that the amp is getting preamp on both sides) will show you if the amp has a blown channel.
