What does it mean when you lose power randomly

What does it mean when you lose power randomly My co-workers maxima has a problem with the power all of a sudden dropping off, like all ther lights on and in the car dim..can barely hear the radio, then it comes back on, only happens for a few seconds. The battery cables are new and the alternator is pretty new, dont know the age of the battery. Any help is appreciated.
