Default Image Dynamics 2 ohm Speakers

I just wanted some thoughts on the following speakers:

Doors: http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSCXS62

Sail panels: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/IDSCX62

They are overly expensive. But, they are the first 2-0hm 6.5" speakers I've run across on the web.

The stock Monsoon speakers are 2 ohm. I'm thinking GM did that just to get by with a smaller amplifier. Or simply to make it more difficult to find a drop-in replacement.

My thoughts are to upgrade in 2 steps.

Step 1: Upgrade speakers leaving stock HU, Amp and harness in place.

Step 2: Replace Amp and wiring. Adding a true subwoofer.

While, there are far superior head units than stock, I wanted to keep the stock look of my 35th LE. I just don't think a 1 DIN HU looks good in the space designe for 1.5 DIN unit.

I hadn't even thought about doing any audio upgrades until my right door speaker blew. I have the Alpines recommended in the FAQ on order. I'm going to try those first, even though they are 4 ohm. I might just get the CX62's for the sail penels, later. If the Alpines work out well.

Your thought process sounds on target. And maybe you'll have better luck w/2ohm than I did replacing w/4ohm comps. I originally attempted that changover, but still didn't like the OEM HU and its output performance, and quality wasn't what I was seeking.

Probably, the cheapest way to begin w/o major swap-outs.
Good luck on your project, and let us know how it works out if you go that route. You can always get a trim plate (panel) that are also attractive.
Heck, I've even seen FAKE OEM HU covers overlaying the aftermarket HU, and you would never know exept on close inspection. Just another thought for you based on your comments.

True. I may change my mind about keeping the stock HU, if and when I get step 2 finished. Although, my ears are not that finely tuned, so I'm not sure if I'd be able to tell the difference, unless it was a tremendous difference in SQ. I don't need to rattle my neighbors windows, like some folks are wont to do. So power is not a concern.

FYI, the ID components can be had for $299 at http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...TOKEN=93888320. I have yet to hear them, but everything I've read says they are awesome. I will be taking a trip to a car audio shop about 1.5hrs away to listen to them soon though.

Here's a set priced at $279.00.

http://www.carmedia1.com/en-us/dept_19.html

You'll have to scroll down a bit to find the CXS62's.

They also have the CX62's for $129.

the reason they're 2 ohms is for competitions. you can use "cheater" amps on them to draw more wattage and still be in a certain watt class. orion hcca had 2 ohm midbasses as well about 5 years ago.
