Default MTX 2150x and subs question.

Hi all, any help is appreciated. I have a old school MTX 2150x(when they were made like tanks). I don't have much info since it's so old(around 98 model). For the last 5 years I have been running JL audio 10w0's, at first was 2 8 ohm subs, then 1 had the glue come appart on the surround and the warrantly replaced the sub, but they made a mistake and added a 4ohm, so my system has been seeing a 2.66 ohm load. It sounded alot better running a 8 and 4 ohm in my millhouse box and been taking a beating for a couple years. The other night I downloaded a song, put it on a cd and when I put it in my stereo a few minutes later both the 10w0's blew(total meltdown), the sub will not even move, the whole voice coil is fused. It also blew my fuse(actually broke the glass on the fuse too). Must be from distortion from the song I downloaded, I didn't have it up all the way and have listened to bass a whole lot louder than what blew the subs.

So now I need new subs, with the MTX it is about 500 watts into a 4ohm mono load or 250 watts x 2 into a 2 ohm load. Does that mean in stereo I can do a 2 ohm and mono a 4? Or should I go with a 8 and 4 ohm sub like before to get that extra power out of the subs in a 2.66 ohm load and have the best of both worlds, not a 2 ohm load to heat up the amp and fry it. Has worked the last couple years perfect. Then the question is what subs now? for 5 years I've run the JL's and car audio changed so quick. What would be a good sub in a millhouse box for this amp? Thanks in advance.

I would get some MTX 4500 10's 4ohm dvc's and wire them up to run the amp at 4ohms. They can be had on ebay for good prices. *$100-$120ish*

Yes that is correct because once the channels on the amp are bridged it will read as half the resistance. (in other words both will read a 2 ohm load at the amp level)
