sub question
sub question hey guys, i have a Phoenix Gold Xenon X400.1 mono sub amp and am looking for some new subs to match up to it. i currently have 2 12" MTX 5500s hooked up, but i dropped something on one and figured i may as well just get new ones.
The thing is that the amp is rated at 400w RMS, and my subs are rated at 300w RMS each. i was wondering if getting two subs with a lower RMS to more closely match the amp would yield any sound quality or loudness benefits.
i was thinking maybe 2 150-200w RMS subs would be better or should i just replace the one i messed up with the same sub?

are you sure, i thought having subs with an RMS range closer to that of the amp would produce better sound. i was almost thinking of getting mtx 4500s.

Either step down in sub, like to an Alpine R-type for example, or step up to a bigger amp. I'd go JL if you do. Even a JL 500 slash would handle those subs pretty well. The 500 means RMS not peak with JL. Just IMO.

alright, i think i might step down, the 5500s are too deep for me to sell to my friends since they drive reg. cab trucks and have to use narrow truck boxes. but a 4500 would work, so if i dont like them i could always just sell them. sounds like a win/win.
