V1 user here and my radar has never steered me wrong yet. I do like it better than the 8500, but keep in mind I'm also used to the V1. So I'm not sure if it's a fair comparision. Both seem like competent units, but the build quality and directional arrow are really what i like about the V1 over the 8500.

I have an Escort Solo 2 and I am quite satisfied with it. Saved me numerous times. It always surprises me on how far it will pick up radar. Once you have your detector for a couple days and drive where you normally do you'll see where you will pick up false alarms. I pick up automatic doors quite easily but it doesnt annoy me i just press the mute button. Most automatic doors are either X or K band and the police in my town have Ka. When you do pick up radar remember the band and what town you were in so you dont just think its a false alarm. I have only picked up a Laser reading twice. Once i was doing 80 in a 55 on an expressway and i immediately slowed down and I guess it gave me enough time since i wasnt pulled over. It also does very well for over hills and around bends. I live in a town with a lot of hills and it again surprises me. Its been said in this thread and I'll say it again, you get what you pay for. I've seen cheaper models in action and have not found then to be the least bit satisfactory. Warnings come way too late.

yeah i have one to it kicks ***! saved me multiple times. the only problem i had with it is i left it in the sun in my car when it was 100*+ outside and one of the parts on the inside overheated and i had to send it in to get it fixed for $75. supposedly the new ones fixed the overheating problems, but now if its that hot ill just take it out with me.
