Class II data bus headunit relocation?
I have an 04 Monte Carlo that I'm going to replace the head unit in, but it's got this Class II headunit deal. No XM, no on-star.
It looks like Metra makes a t-harness (pn 70-2003T) to relocate the factory headunit, that way I could mount it in the trunk or something and keep the programmability of the door chimes, oil reset, and that garbage.
What else is required?
Will I lose the door chime through the speakers with this harness?
Does that then require a separate harness/speaker I've seen that is also made by Metra?
Crutchfield was trying to tell me that I needed some $70 harness that Metra makes that doesn't relocate the stock headunit, but that uses a supplied speaker to reproduce the door chimes and such.
But I then lose any of the programming that can be done with the stock headunit.
I'd rather get the $30 t-harness that relocates the headunit to the trunk, and pay $25 for the Metra mounting kit and antenna adapter.
BTW, does maddboost=Phil?
