need help on speakers with factory Head unit..
need help on speakers with factory Head unit.. i have a 98 camaro... stock stereo.. i want to keep the stock head unit for looks purposes.. its NOT the monsoon system.. can i then use any speakers i choose? i know its different with the monsoon.. so thats why im asking before i go buy speakers
also.. what about hooking up an amp? anything special i need?

I don't know anything about the NON-Monsoon System. I'm assuming they are normal full range coaxials front and back. It should be easy to just drop in after market speakers. You'll want speaker that are rated for no more than 50Wrms. I'd stay with 4 ohm speakers.
If you decide to add an amp, you'll need line level converters to convert the speaker outputs from the headunit to RCA jacks to run to the amplifier input. These should be easy to find. And of course, you'll want to pick speakers to match your amp specs.

Non monsoon system is just plain 4 ohm drivers.
Go buy any 4 ohm set of coaxial of your choice. If you know you are going to use only the factory head unit I wouldn't spend more than $75 or so.
While you are in there I'd recommend putting in a set of bass blockers, 50-60Hz or so. It'll help keep the drivers from distorting.
