I believe it is likely that the Monsoon DVC speakers are not built like standard DVC speakers with one coil wound atop the other. First, the Monsoon speakers have each coil wired directly to the amplifier, which you would not want to with a typical DVC speaker. Any difference in signal between the 2 channels would cause distortion due to one coil working in opposition to the other. Considering that people have reported horrible sound when the 2 channels are tied together would indicate the 2 channels are purposely different. Reinforcing my theory that there is more to the stock speaker than meets the eye.
For Firebird Monsoon owners, the best recommendation is to get a decent mid-priced aftermarket speaker and hook it up to only one pair of wires on each side.
