Default Need help replacing speakers (the ones in door)

My front speakers in the doors have been blown for a while and im finally going to replace them, but i have a few questions. These may be retarded questions but i don't know much about stereos.

1. what size are they?

2. How do i get that damned plastic cover off?

3. what are some good ones to buy without spending too much?

thanks in advance,
Nick

1. The door speakers are 6.5" speakers. Note that in the Camaro they configured as coaxial speakers but wired seperately like components.

2. You don't. The speaker grill is part of the door panel. To replace the speaker, you have to take the door panel off completely. This is not nearly as hard as it sounds. IF you have manual roll-up windows, you will need a tool to remove the crank handle.

3. There are differing opinions on which speaker is best. I replaced mine with Alpine SPS-170A's. They sound much better than stock. And are available for about $60 on the internet ($100 at Best Buy). I also replaced my rear hatch 4" speakers with SPS-100A's.

I can't remember where I got mine at. I have done business with these people, but here's a couple of listings I found on the net.
