Default strange problem i ran into

ok went to replace my door speakers last night in my 98z, i got the ALpine SPR-17LP, the stock had 4 wires coming off of it,(2 positive wires, and 2 negative wires) the Alpine only had a hook up for two wires so that 2 would not be used.

i tried many different combinations to get this speaker to work, it did, but sounded really shitty and no where near as good as the stock one did.

someone said that i have the monsoon system and it was run off an AMP, but there was no factory amp to be found, can anyone help me??

my door panel is off right now and its my daily driver!

is there anyway to get this to work?

here is a link to best Buy to the speaker i wanted to use(secone one down)

The door speakers in the Camaro are wired seperately like component speakers, but mounted coaxially. The tweeters run directly form the head unit. The woofers run off of the Monsoon amplifier which is locate on the passenger side rear just forward of the spare tire. The amlifier has internal low-pass crossovers, so the woofers only see frequencies below 1 or 2 kHz. The tweeter wire (longer pair) should've worked, but the speaker would not be as loud since it is not amplified. The woofer wires would definitely sound like crap with no mid or high freqs.

Here's a thread for instructions for bi-wiring the Alpine SPS-170A's:

Hopefully the SPR-17LP's are similar enough to do the same.

You mean the stock wiring harness was soldered directly to the stock speakers?

You should still be able to match up wire colors.
