Default What to do?

Im putting a pc in my car. The touchscreen will go in the dash where the HU is. Its only about 1.5" thick so I was hopeing to just stuff my current HU behind it but it wont really fit. The only reason im keeping the HU is because I need RCA in to get the sound from my pc into my car. If there is another solution(like new amp with rca-in) that is as cheap & easy to do as below then please let me know.

So, I figure I have two options:

1. relocate monsoon HU and buy aux-in adaptor(70$)
this would be a pain too right?
2. Buy smaller HU with rca input and mount behind screen.
This would be a 1-din unit(the smaller the better or are they all the same size?)
Can someone recommend a specific HU? Im not an audiophile, anything that sounds as good as stock is good enough for me.
Require:
RCA-in
small
cheap(75$ ?)
remote would be nice since I may not have easy access to buttons
What do I lose with a new HU? Steering wheel controls, anything else? I know the stock HU powers some of the speakers, will an aftermarket HU do that?

fyi: I have a monsoon tape deck that has CD changer support.

If you are spending the money to do this then why not do it the right way?

If you mount the head unit behind the screen then you would not be able to use the cassette or know what station you are listening to.

Any aftermarket deck with a remote would be useless because it would be behind the screen. (Or did I misunderstand the second option?) There is a product that would allow you to use the steering wheel controls via the aftermarket head unit's infrared remote but it would need to actually see the deck in order to work.

I would try to TOTALLY integrate the sound system through the computer and just get an aftermarket amp to power it.

Check out MP3Car.com and see what some of those guys have done. There are some awesome installs over there.

I wont be using the tape deck etc., all audio is through the PC. The only reason im keeping the HU is because I need RCA in to get the sound from my pc into my car.

Replacing the amp seems like its more $ and work than the other solutions. If not, let me know.

I am going to hook up my steering wheel controls to my computer so thats not an issue.

Okay I guess I will relocate my stock HU. I can just cut and extend the wires on the 20 pin connector or is there more to it? I wont be using the CD changer port and ill worry about the antenna later. Please confirm this for me! Thanks.

I just stuffed the stock HU behind the touchscreen. It worked for me and I'm happy with my install. Although I am considering relocating my AC controls the the glovebox and installing a cd player with aux capabilities. It would be nice to have the radio again .

What I ended up doing is relocating my HU to my back seat where my computer is. I use a tape adaptor to get sound in but I can still get a aux-in later. This allows me to still use my steering wheel volume controls.

No radio now because I need to get the antenna plugged in to the HU still.

For my screen, an 8" lilliput, I moved the asr and fog light buttons to where the cig. lighter is, and that freed up enough room for the screen without moving ac controls.
