Default Help me pick out a new system.

I know this is probably the most asked question, but it's for good reason. I would like some suggestions for a system build up. I currently have a monsoon stock system.
Some ground rules - I prefer good clean sound with a proper amount of bass, not muddy, boomy bass. I also don't believe in paying for things I will never hear (especially on the road). I'm concerned about weight.
The things I want
  • Head Unit - Clean pre-amps, ipod capability, existing steering wheel controls integration. HD radio would be cool, so would DVD Audio, both unnecessary. Around $500 budget.
  • Front Speakers - Component or Coax approx. $350 budget
  • Stealth box
  • Sub - 10" approx. $350 budget
  • Sub amp - must match sub - approx $500 budget
  • Mids/Highs amp - must match chosen speakers - approx $400 budget

I'm definitely not opposed to spending less than the combined total if it meets my needs. I'm completely open to suggestions even if it costs more, but I would want to know why it's more. I would also prefer getting new equipment. Thanks guys.

ok heres my two cents, you can build a great great system for less than your budget by far. For your HU, id look into eclipse, they tend to be the HU that i hear the most good things out of and fewest amount of problems. alpine is also a very good choice. Front speakers: do yourself a favor and DONT get coaxial, get components, your ears will thank you. if you have a camaro, mounting them is almost no trouble so if thats what your worried about dont. My personal preference is boston acoustic, my ears have loved them since the day i put them in. however, all speakers are subjective to the listener, so just give them a listen. stealthbox, 1 word: SUBTHUMP. serously, best build quality, best price, i really dont know what else to say, ive dealt with steve many times and he is a TOP notch box builder, you wont be dissapointed. Now here is where you can save some money fi you want. IF you are not out to wake the neighborhood and just want good, clean sound that u can play loud when u want to, i would get ONE 4 channel amp OR a 3 channel amp, not 2. you can run the front channels of the amp to the front speakers then bridge the rear channels for the sub. it will save you time, space, and most of all money! you literally could put that amp where the spare tire went and have a completely stealth system if you wanted to. as far as amp brands go, i used to run fosgate stuff, that was good for the average user i felt, i stepped up to the JL slash series amp and never regretted it. i hope this helped you some, and SQ sound system is the only way to go for sure, good choice!

Subthump is the box I'm getting. I'm looking at the kicker solobaric because of the space constraints of the box. I don't know if I like the idea of using a class A/B amp for the sub , but the hiding in the wheel well for complete stealth sounds cool, so I might try that first. Components were what I'm leaning towards and will probably definitely go with now. Thanks for the input.
... Anyone else?

I would like to add my 2 cents for the A/B amp used with subs. Think about it this way, if you own a Camaro would you put a real aggressive 33 all terrain tire on the car or a lower profile performance tire. Both will work but only one was designed to do the job intended for the Camaro. Hence the purpose for a Mono amplifier to be designed is for subwoofers........

That is what I was thinking. In all my other vehicles I almost exclusively used a MMATS D class amp for the subs. I couldn't see using an amp that wasn't designed for it. I liked the idea for the space and weight constraints though. I guess it will put the weight behind the axle though.
