Default Factory stereo problem....

I've been having this issue for a while where the sounds cuts from front to back. Not sure whats going on or what causes it. If I push the balance and fade buttons in it fixes the problem for the most part but then periodically will start doing the cutting out. Also when I first got the car in 2001 the CD player wasnt working but the radio was. And as the monsoon system goes the radio would get louder/quieter depending on the gas as most know but once the dealership installed a new one it never did that again.

Anyway anyone have any ideas what the problem might be with the sound cutting out from front to back?

Thanks
-Michelle

Not sure about the cutting out. The volume changing when stepping on the gas (Speed Compensated Volume) I thought was a feature of the Camaro Monsoon system. Didn't think the F'birds had that. If fiddling with the fader/balance controls fixes it temporarily, I'd think it has to be a problem with the head unit. Might take it out and give it a good cleaning with electronics spray or compressed air. IF that doesn't help, I'd look for another HU on ebay.

You're right - the speed compensated volume control was a feature on the Camaros only. Even if you put a Camaro head unit in a Firebird it still won't have that feature because there is no VSS wire in the Firebird harness.

No wasnt a feature on only the camaro because it was like that on my car when I first bought it. When I went to the dealer two weeks later and they put a new CD player in it no longer did that.

Thanks for the reply. I"ll pull the unit out and see whats goin on.

Sorry, but no...the Firebird has never had that feature. As I said earlier, there is no VSS (vehicle speed sensor) wire in the Firebird radio harness. Your radio must have been malfunctioning and just appeared to vary volume with speed. Check your owner's manual - there is no mention of speed sensitive volume (but it is described in Camaro owner's manuals).
