Default Tach options

Didn't know where to put this, so:

I'm well aware that the factory tach is slower'n cold molasses on a good day, apparently due to the triggering mechanism??? Is there anyone out there who's tried to look for ways to quicken the response of the tach, or even made a factory replacement?

Before I get bombarded with people telling me to get an aftermarket tach, let me just say that I've thought about that, and I'd rather try to tweak the tach on it now than have two tachs to confuse me... I'm a little slow, ya know.

Interesting question. But is the tach slow because of slow signals from the PCM or because the tach itself is slow to respond? If it's the tach itself then it's going to be difficult to fix.

I think I read its from the PCM so no real way to do so.

I may be wrong though and I just used a shift light to get around it myself.

Back in the day (points and condensor), aftermarket tachs were hooked up to the primary wire at the coil. I'm assuming that they don't do that anymore? My thought was that if the PCM is the problem (sending slow signals) then perhaps the tach could be wired to a different sending source for faster response.

Welp, you can't run to a single coil pack and get any better signal. I think the problem with the factory tach is the signal... only one pulse per rpm. Could you put in a trigger that has like, four pulses per rpm(dunno the technical terms, so forgive me), and adjust the signal strength accordingly, and make it more responsive?
