Default What to do for subs in sail panel?

I am putting in some of those old school 6.5" RFP4406 subs soon and was wondering what prep work I can do to the sail panels in order to maximize their sound. I know dynamatting will help a lot, but does anyone else have any other suggestions that could help out? thanks!

Tighten all screws, and make sure the spare tire is locked in good and tight.

agree to tighten screws. after that its a guessing game what to do next. dynamat would help, but not solve the problem.

If you're just going to drive them with the monsoon amp some dynamat and fiberfill is probably all that's worth it, using the dynamat as a gasket as well, or using a seperate gasket for the basket.

The biggest problem really is that you're just using sheet metal screws in thin sheet metal to mount the damn thing, really easy to strip the holes.

I've seen some very extensive work done with glassing up an enclosure and making a proper port system, but that's very high end stuff.

i agree, and no i will be using an aftermarket amp pusing 75 rms watts to each speaker. i was going to dynamatt the metal for sure and use some more dynamat as a gasket, i guess i should have been more clear. is there anything i can do behind the sub area to get the "best" sealed type setup? such as sealing it off as best as possible, polyfill, etc. thanks!

I don't think there is really going to be an "easy" way of sturdying things up back there. But if you are going to push an honest 75 watts rms to the drivers, I think some due diligence in using some fiberfill and possibly some low-grade sound deadener would be good advice for the cavity itself. All the different panels and spot welds can be a really huge source of mice squeaks and rattles.

I would also pay attention to the plastic interior trim contact points. Some well placed felt or shoddy can do wonders to cut down rattles / buzzing.

Finally I'd suggest tapping holes for a larger screw size, or figuring out some other better way of bolting the drivers up to the mounting plate. The 4 machine screws are going to have an uphill battle holding up to that kind of load.
