Default bad tach?or bad connection?

installed a 5" tach today on my 98 camaro.tapped the signal wire into the #35 white wire on the top of the pcm like everyone said to.

the tach shows an rpm,but its hella laggy and not accurate at all.

could a bad connection cause this?we tried re-doing it but it didnt seem to help.

also if its a cheap tach could that be the problem?its not a name brand tach at all.

help

Its hard to say as it could be either.
If you have already rewired it I would lean towards a bad tach.
You might try soldering the connection and see if that helps.

Did you set the tach for a 4-cylinder configuration? The LS1 PCM outputs two pulses per revolution so you have to set the tach to 4-cylinder rather than 8-cylinder to get a proper reading.

Yes, that should take care of the problem.
