Battery wire and terminal questions
Battery wire and terminal questions I just bought an Optima blue top battery with SAE top post and marine top posts. Currently, I am using some cheap lead top post to GM side adapters. The guys at the local car audio shop suggested changing the big three. They suggested to change all of the power wiring over to 4 gauge wire and to get audio battery terminals.
Most of the terminals that I am looking at will take a 1 gauge cable. Would I be better using the 4 ga or going to the larger 1 gauge wire? Are there any drawbacks to using the larger gauge wires? If I use the audio brand cables, will the coatings melt or be sheilded as well, as the stock GM wires? Or would I be better off going to AutoZone and buying a 2 gauge top post battery cable that seems to have thick shielding?
The next question is does anyone know of a polished or billet or shiny silver battery terminal that are available? I have looked at Kicker, Lightning Audio, Streetwires, Stinger, RF, PG, Metra, JL, and Scosche. So far the best looking one is a Stinger. Are there any other brands that I should look at or for that matter stay away from?
