No. The CD port on the head unit uses a proprietary serial interface. The HU won't switch to that port unless it can communicate with the changer (or adapter) through the serial data line.

I agree, just get the PIE interface box. I have a 2000 Z28 and tried to do the same thing (1) because I didnt want to have to buy the PIE module and (2) because I'm an electrical engineer and am pretty good at reverse engineering things, in fact I just did the same thing succesfully on my 1990 GMC 1500 P/U (it had the tape deck). I spent a good amount of time on this camaro CD changer interface with a scope and a handfull of 10K and 100K resistors with no luck. I gave in a bought the PIE, it worked perfect. I even took apart the PIE to see what they were doing and there is quite a bit of circuitry in there including a small microcontroller.
