Default What are enclosures worth?

What is something like this worth? I had it in my C6 and it was custom made for the C6 to allow you to keep the top in the car. The guy I bought it from said that he dropped about $1100 for the whole setup. The stereo components retailed for about $750 and I doubt he paid retail. In fact, I just sold them on ebay and got $250 out of them. Assuming he paid like $600 for the audio components that says he dropped $500 on the enclosure.

This is a very sturdy box that is currently set up to take 2 10" subs. The faces are angled. The entire inclosure is 42" wide.

For each sub area the inside dimensions are 12" wide, 10" tall, the bottom is 10" deep and the top is about 5" deep. (remember the face is angled)

The area in between the sub areas is 13.5" wide and about 11.5" deep.

The outside is covered in some kind of black, ebony vinyl. On the ends it has a type of thin cloth (almost looks like the soft part of velcro). This material also runs along the inside area. Some of the edges of this need glued down a little better. Only reason I say that is I have put it in and out of the car enough that there are a couple of spots peeling back from the edge. I would glue it but don't know if you are supposed to be using elmers glue or what. Again, this is only in a few small spots and just on the edge and it's just starting to peel back a little from being put in and out. These areas don't stand out obnoxiously as you can see from the pics and I think elmers would in fact work, just don't know.

Here are the pics and also one from when the audio stuff was installed and in the car. Note that the installed pic shows the amp installed in an upright position on a center backing board but that was just so people at car shows could see the light on the amp when the music was playing. You could use a backing board and do the same thing or mount it flat in the center area.

So what could I expect to get out of this thing? Anyone local to Charlotte area interested. Would hate to have to ship it.

all that money on a car, and he used RF P1 subs....WTF?

btw, the box, from what i can see doesn't look like it was sealed up to well, but the leather style wrap looks good. But definatly not worth $500

What about it doesn't look sealed? It's pretty damn solid really. Mind you, I am no audiophile.

maybe it is me, but every box i make, either for a customer or myself, i seal the inside of the box at the joints. It appears to me, that he only used glue. Which is why it doesnt look like it is sealed very well

I see. So what do you think it is worth? If you were going to sell it, what would you ask for it? I want to put it in the for sale section but need to assign an appropriate price to it.

the thing with custom boxes like that, is the original guy pays through the nose because a shop has to spend alot of time designing something that fits the car, but when you go to resell it, you never ger anywhere near close to what you paid. It appears to be a sturdy box, there's nothing wrong with only using wood glue on the seams, it there's no leaks, then it's fine. It's also real mdf, not particle board, which is a plus.

I would say you should be happy to get $200 out of it.

Thanks for the info. I guess we'll find out what it's worth. I just listed it on ebay for $1 start and no reserve.
