Default how do i switch head units in 01 vette?

When I got my 01 Vette it had an Alpine aftermarket CD deck in it. I got a new Alpine CD deck to replace the older one for a little bit of an update. My question is, what steps do I need to do in order to pull the harness out? I know with most Chevy's its pulling out the dash cover but if that is the case, what do I need to do? Anyone have experience with this? or is it in my best interest to take it to a place and throw down $50 just to change head units???

The steps are little more involved than on an f-body but not too difficult. To access the radio trim cover you need to remove the console (or at least unbolt it). The service manual calls for complete removal of the console but you should be able to just swing it out of the way.

Start by putting the car in 4th (manual) or second (automatic) and pulling the parking brake all the way up. On an M6 disconnect the shift boot from the trim plate. Use a screwdriver to remove the caps covering the console retaining nuts and remove the nuts holding the back of the console and the nuts holding the front of the console and the instrument panel trim plate. Lift the rear of the console slightly and pull rearward to release the console from the trim plate. Remove the ashtray and the instrument panel trim plate grille (at the left side of the panel). Remove the screws from behind the ashtray and behind the grille. Grasp the sides of the trim plate near the curve at the base and pull rearward to release the locking tabs (lift the back edge to clear the studs). Disconnect the cigarette lighter. You should be able to turn the panel enough to get it out of the way or else you can remove it by lifting it off over the shifter. Now you can just remove the radio retaining screws and remove the radio.
