Crossovers okay to use??
Crossovers okay to use?? Hey guys, I have recently acquired a few new things to add to my stereo system. I bought a 4 channel amp and two 8 inch Rockford Fosgate subs to put in the sails. I also purchased some crossovers, and that is what my question is about. In the front door speakers I have Alpine SPS-17C2's. Right now I have the woofer and the tweeter wired seperately using the stock wiring. I was planning on using the crossovers so I can use two channels to power both front woofers and tweeters. Do you think using the crossovers will help me out and work okay?? The reason I ask is because the only speakers that I see that are sold with crossovers are component speakers and the Alpine SPS-17C2's aren't components. So should I use the crossovers (will it sound good?) or just wire the speakers how they came? (The tweeter and the woofer connect to the 2 speaker terminals)
I have one other question too, on the Alpine SPS-17C2's there looks to be some resistor or something that the power goes through before it gets to the tweeter. I'm wondering what this is for and if it matters that I'm not going through it??

Do these Alpines have seperate connections for the tweeter and woofer? I'm not sure which models, but some of the alpines can be modified to accept two different connections (one for the tweeter and one for the woofer) and that should allow you to use the crossovers with no problem. You may have to do a search to check the model #s against the ones you have.
