Capacitor question Forgive my audio ignorance, but what exactly do these capacitors that I see do for stereo systems? I know what capacitors do, but what purpose do they serve for stereo systems?

Re: Capacitor question If you're runnin some major wattage though some bigass amps, then it draws heavily from your charging system.. what a Cap. does is basically always have high amperage current on tap... Not needed for our non-competition systems.. At least not mine.. Im happy with my two MTX 10's and MTX thunder amp...

Re: Capacitor question yeah it just stores up the enery to keep from dimming your lights, etc or the dB's dropping off when the bass hits.

Re: Capacitor question It helps out more than just the stereo. I've regularly seen drops to ten volts with bass bumps. A cap supplies energy to the entire chassis electrical system.
Low voltage is bad for the computer, dash modules, fans, fuel pump, everything.
While the car itself will react to and attempt to overcome voltage fluctuations, it just can't do it as fast as a cap can.

Re: Capacitor question If you have any type of high current amp running subs or an amp that is running a low ohm load I recommend adding a cap. They are not that pricy, help you get better sound at all volumes, help your bat out, and stop dimming lights.
