Default Tweeter location for Camaro

What is the best location to mount tweeters on a camaro? I've seen a couple of ideas, and I'm not totally certain which way to go. My favorite is that triangular shaped plastic piece where the rearview mirror is... but even though it looks *perfect* in pictures, When I look at that spot in my car, that trim panel is completely covered by the side window defroster when the door is closed. I don't know if I'm just looking at it at a weird angle or something, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be that good because of that. Maybe it works on the LT1 interior? Regardless, other options I like are that tweeter pod that SSCHEVY (or somehting like that) made, but, I'm not good enough with fiberglass to attempt that on my own.. so that becomes a dead issue. Then I was thinking about doing the DJSEXAY setup... but even though I would LOVE to do his setup, I'm really not ready to give up my deadpedal to a midrange, and I don't know how critical that mid location is in order to get good imaging... as in, I'm not sure if that tweeter location would work well on a two way setup. Well.. regardless... that's why I rehashed this tired topic... I did the search, but I keep seeing the same ideas, and the same reasons why I shouldn't do them.

In the back, my tweeters and 6.5 fit nicely behind the factory grill. I just surface mounted the tweeters on the sheetmetal next to the speaker.

In the front, I mounted the tweeters in the vents on the end of the dash. Mount the tweeter to the backstrap that comes with the head unit... you know that strip of metal with all the holes in it that nobody uses. Then bend it to hold the tweeter in the ventpod, and screw it down. Make sure to mount the tweeter back far enough to allow unobstructed movement of the vent blades.

I had my tweeters in the corner of the doors and they looked and sounded great. Then A friend of mine and I decided to put them in the dash. We cut (drilled holes with a 1 1/2 hole bit) and flush mounted them there. (Sorry, I do not have any pics at the moment) It sounds better than any other spot I have tried. The sound goes up and bounces off the glass and comes back at the seats. Even with the windows open you lose very little sound out the window. I will try to get some pics and post them.

I would definately appreciate pics of the dash install.. Where on the dash did you mount them? I guess a pic would probably answer that best :-)

What I did was I took a hole saw bit and drilled holes in the plastic portion of the dash that extends to the windshield (dont know what it is called exactly). I will try to get some pics for you tomorrow. WHen I get them I will post them or can e-mail them to you.

We sunk a pair of Hurricane tweeters in the side defrost vents in the A-Piller... Sound and direction are awesome..... Took a bit of trial and error but we did it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

If you don't have electric windows, you can mount them in the spot where your window and lock switches would be.
I mounted my tweeters there a year ago and it sounds pretty good. Looks nice too, but I guess you need a stripper car to do it.
