Re: new head unit question Yes, however the highpower out puts of your new reciever will more than likely put our more power and better sound than the monsoon amp. You may also run in to a problem with "over driving" the inputs of the monsoon amp with the new found power with the aftermarket deck causing distortion.
Re: new head unit question you can change the headunit, and be just fine. uses a standard metra GM wiring harness, (same one used in 90% of 89+ GM cars)
You will most likely not overdrive the amp, unless you have a 50 watt headunit, and like to listen to it on hte max setting.
The headunit is not the weakest link, and you can have a great sounding system using it.
The stock monsoon amp is the weakest link.

Re: new head unit question I changed everything *but* the head unit (amp, speakers, wiring etc) and it sounded like crap.
The only thing that was left stock was the HU. After I took out the HU the whole system woke up. It is where the signal begins. YMMV.
