Default How does this setup sound to you?

I finally decided to replace my garbage factory 4 speaker (basic!) cassette system in my Formula with something better. Here are the parts I have waiting to go in:

Pioneer DEH1400 CD head unit
PPI 25x2 amp for the front components
Orion 222sx amp, driving two 6.5" Kenwood subs (which will go in the rear seat area where the factory speakers are)
I still haven't got the 6.5" components yet but will probably go with something like JL Audio, Boston Acoustics or something similar. I will also be buying an MTX 3 way crossover as well most likely.
I got the two amps used, the PPI for $50CDN and the Orion for $100. The Orion is only rated at 22x2, but it's a "cheater amp" that is meant to run at very low impedence to make a TON more power. We'll probably load it down to 1ohm.

Total cost on all this is only going to be about $1000CDN ($650US!) so it's not going to cost too much, but yet should provide some half decent sound. What do you guys think? Any suggestions on lower cost components sets? (I'll probably be buying them this morning, or at least listening to a few sets at a local shop)

I went to look at components sets today, but the place I went to only had two sets. One was the Infinity Reference series, the other was a Rockford Fosgate, but I can't recall the model number. The Fosgates sounded a lot better, the highs were much crisper, however my buddy pointed out to the sales guy that the Infinity's were wired up out of phase! So I need to hear these speakers again at a different store. The Infinity's are $100 cheaper too, so I'd rather go with these based on that alone. I can always tweek the EQ a bit to bring out the highs more if I get the Infinity's also. I should listen to a few more sets out there anyways, before I decide. I've got about 2-3 weeks before we go forward with the full install. My buddy installed the head unit for me today too, and that alone made a huge difference. This head unit is rated at 20 watts of continuous power per channel (45 watts max) and makes the shitty stock speakers sound a little bit better. Having the clean sound of a CD player helps too, as opposed to being stuck with the radio (I never used the cassette portion of the original head unit)

whazzup patman!

sounds like you're building a pretty good system together at a reasonable price. those orion cheater amps hit a ton don't know much about the pioneer, i've been running alpines since 89 i will offer an opinion on the components, strictly just opionion i have ran all the ones you have mentioned except the infinity's. not to mention polk, alpine and soundstream. the only one of the ones i would be tempted to buy again are the boston pro's. they held up to my abuse the best i am famous for blowin up speakers, but never did these. i have heard nothing but good things about infinity, just no personal experience eventually, i am going to get focals for the new Z. right now too busy buying go fast goodies got a cam on the way
hope your system goes smoothly and you see the results you are looking for.

peace

One of the two guys that is helping install my system has the Boston Pros in his 94TA and they sound great! Problem is, they are $600 up here, so that would put me way over budget. Even the Boston Rallye series is over my budget at $400.

Basically any component set I find will sound ten times better than the current setup, but I'd like to listen to a few to make sure that I get something half decent for the money.
