Default doing a total upgrade this winter, need advice

I am tired of my lame 200 watt monsoon in my 99 SS. My buddy is going to install a new system this winter. We are eith going with the Kenwood Excelon KVT-911dvd or Panasonic CQ-VAD7200U DVD player head unit, Infinity component speakers to replace all factor ones, and one 12 inch Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2 RFD2212 in a custom made stealth box on the driver side boot area and a amp(not sure which one yet). Will we have to rewire the whole car, or can we use the existing wires? someone else had mentioned the factory amp would cause a problem. they also said to run all new wires to everything, that way I can pull the whole system out and replace the factory stuff by just plugging the harness back together. Please give me any advice

aka 99mongoose

I am still waiting for a reply here??? I have noticed there isn't a lot of traffic on this part of the forum. I am planning on one subwoofer, but will that sound lame. I like all types of music and occasionally I throw in some rap and BASS!!! But I don't want to lose my t-top storage area!

If ur not a bass head like me....then a single 12 should do u pretty good...12" subs give the best of both worlds(hard hitting bass and deep low notes). As far as ur wiring is concerned im gonna run a simple by-pass of the factory amp, mainly b/c im too lazy to run wire through the whole car. Here's a link to show u a wiring breakdown of the factory amp harness. U can find every wire u need to upgrade ur system there except for of course ur power and ground.
monsoon harness
hope this helps ya....email me if u have any more ?s.....systems are my speciality as u can tell..lol

i dunno what to say guys...i spliced into the woofer's in the back seat and have that line running to the amp....no change....i made sure that they werent crossed over or anything like that...i went back and rechecked all my connections and made sure there is no bare wire anywhere...everything is setup like it should be...i have no more ideas...i am quite depressed...the only thing i can think is that the amp is no good....i know they are good amps my mustang buddy has one...but mine must be crap...i am about ready to yank the whole thing out of my car put it on e-bay and be happy with stock!

any more ideas before i go even more insane???

mossoon stereo sucks, i think when you want it loud, its nearly as good as it may be, and when you want to change something, you have to change everything becuase every speaker has its own amp and in the back there is crossovers, so you have to rewire the system to get rid of the built in the system, or you want to hear highs in the front and bass in the back speakers, and thats crap, i disconected my very back speakers, they are no use, they are three inch tweeters, and sound like ****, i would replace the wires, like i did, it will sound better, and when you do it, add better wires, like monster cable, it will be worth it, but in the long run, if you ever get an amp later, you will hear the differnce, i have two subs, and all four speakers replaced with a 4 channel amp behind them, so i have two amps, with two amps, i did have to get a bigger battery, i got am Optium, i think thats how you spell it, but ask away anything

Not sure about the 99's, but I have a 2001 T/A with the Monsoon. All in all it cost me about $35.00 for the wiring harness, antennae adapter, and dash install kit. Thee were the only things I was told I needed by tech support and customer service and www.tunetown.com. All the factory speakers work perfectly with my Alpine CVA-1006. I currently have 2 12" subs in the rear and the whole system sounds pretty awesome. I would defiantely reccomend you call the custoemr service people at www.tunetown.com and see what they say because I originally thought the same thing about having to replace all my speakers, but they told me they would look into it and call me back. They called me back and assured me I was fine and the rest is history. ALSO, the people who told me I couldn't run my head unit without replacing all my speakers were installers at a local TWEETER, formerly BRYN MAWR. So just cause they work there, doesn't exacltly mean what they say is 100% accurate.
