Can a wire run directly from the batt. to the head unit?

Can a wire run directly from the batt. to the head unit? A wire with a fuse to power the head unit.
OR
Can another accessory type power supply be run from somewhere to power the head unit, but still deliver power when the car is turned off? So it will turn off with the key and turn back on with the key and still have power for the clock when off.

Re: Can a wire run directly from the batt. to the head unit? You can jump it from any accessory. Id go with the power windows. Make sure you ground it well or your going to get crazy engine feedback.

Re: Can a wire run directly from the batt. to the head unit? Running straight off the battery will work too. Would be easier to run it from the fuse panel though. I'd use something that turned of with the key and on in accessory mode.
