Trouble starting the car
Trying to figure out if I'm looking at a simple battery problem or maybe a starter problem. This is on the turbo car so it's possible the heat from the passenger side turbo may have damaged the starter. Symptoms are that the other night, out of the blue, the car wouldn't start. Didn't turn over at all. The solenoid made one click and the fuel pump turned on but no noise from the starter. Didn't have jumper cables so push-started the car with no problem. Drove home. This seemed really stange since I had had no previous symptoms of a low battery, and the battery is only 7 months old. However the car has a stereo, so maybe one of the amps is draining too much. Next day the car started like it never had any problem. Then after stopping for gas, same problem. Had jumper cables with me this time and got a jump, but on the first two tries still same symptoms. On the third try (a few minutes between each, jiggling the cables each time) it cranked over and started. That scenario played out again each time I stopped the car.
I did stop to get a battery, thinking it was the problem, but they tested it and found that it was weak, but still good and should have enuf to start the car. Also tried to start the car with the headlights on, and they don't dim at all. I just hooked up a battery charger so I'll test it again in a little bit. This is starting to sound more like a starter problem to me though. Any thoughts?
